Simple Apple Sage Stove Top Stuffing
This is a stuffing recipe that is so simple, quick and uses very basic ingredients. I have made some complicated stuffings or dressings in my day, but this is not one of them. Just bread and a few other ingredients yields lovely flavor.
Ingredients:
- 1 small onion, minced
- 2 small stalks celery, minced
- 1/2 stick salted butter
- 2 tbs Grape seed or olive oil
- 1 small tart apple, peeled, cored, diced
- 3 cups bread cubes
- 1 cup turkey or chicken stock
- kosher slat and black pepper to taste
Method:
- Heat a large Dutch oven or deep saute pan over medium high, add butter, onions, apple and celery.
- Cook stirring often until it just becomes soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.
- Add sage, oil, salt, pepper and bread. Stir until well coated with ingredients, turn down heat to low.
- Continue cooking stirring occasionally until bread starts to become golden brown.
- Add stock, stir well turn off heat and let stand. When cooled off a bit I like to take a potato masher and mash it together a bit, makes for better stuffing in my opinion.
