Simple Apple Sage Stove Top Stuffing

ooh-tasty on turkey sandwich

This is a stuffing recipe that is so simple, quick and uses very basic ingredients. I have made some complicated stuffings or dressings in my day, but this is not one of them. Just bread and a few other ingredients yields lovely flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 small stalks celery, minced
  • 1/2 stick salted butter
  • 2 tbs Grape seed or olive oil
  • 1 small tart apple, peeled, cored, diced
  • 3 cups bread cubes
  • 1 cup turkey or chicken stock
  • kosher slat and black pepper to taste

Method:

  1. Heat a large Dutch oven or deep saute pan over medium high, add butter, onions, apple and celery.
  2. Cook stirring often until it just becomes soft and translucent, about 10 minutes.
  3. Add sage, oil, salt, pepper and bread. Stir until well coated with ingredients, turn down heat to low.
  4. Continue cooking stirring occasionally until bread starts to become golden brown.
  5. Add stock, stir well turn off heat and let stand. When cooled off a bit I like to take a potato masher and mash it together a bit, makes for better stuffing in my opinion.
