Tom Bihn Bags-Seattle WA

Tom Bihn Bags-Seattle WA

Tom-Bihn-Aeronaut
Ok I’ll admit it, I have a bag problem!

I absolutely love gear bags and luggage. Backpacks, shoulder bags, messenger bags, shoulder bags, camera bags, laptop bags, toiletry bags, you name it I love it!

However I am also sort of snobby when it comes to luggage and gear bags. There are a TON of different brands out there but most of them are poorly made with cheap materials and they rip, tear and wear out fast.

I cannot stand cheap bags and when I see someone carry a pile of junk bag it really irritates me. They could own a Tom Bihn bag that is made in America of high quality materials and incredible design. Tom Bihn is the mad behind the company and he does all the design work. Tom Bihn has a ton of different products and they are all stylish yet highly functional and they last forever.

I own many Tom Bihn bags and love them all. My collection is 2 Aeronauts, A Synapse backpack, a Tri Star, 2 Empire Builders, a Medium Cafe bag, lots of padded and clear organizer pouches, three wallets and some more.

I plan on acquiring a few more Tom Bihn bags too! You will not regret a purchase from Tom Bihn, they rock!!

Microplane Tools

Microplane Tools

I have many Microplane tools, they are awesome. Graters and zesters are very handy to have around the kitchen. I use mine to grate cheese, chocolate, citrus zest, dry bread, hard cheeses.

The thing about Microplane tools is that they are very sharp, easy to hold and well-made. You ucan find other graters, but they usually break with any serious use.

Orthaheel Sandals

Orthaheel Sandals

We all need to wear shoes, especially for standing long hours at the stove doing our seasonal cooking and canning marathons. I personally have very flat feet..like a pancake. Zero arch. This did not bother me until I was 25 years old and a mountain bike racer. During my training rides my feet would kill me using clip-less peddles.

After 6-9 months the pain became unbearable and my podiatrist recommended orthotics. They were $450 for the casting and design. They worked ( I still have them) but were not useful in open toes shoes of any kind. For instance in the warmer months I rarely use laced shoes unless I need to travel or make an appearance somewhere.

So to solve the problem I became a devotee of Birkinstocks which I love. Recently I came across some sandals from Orthaheel They ROCK! NO doubt the most supportive, comfortable sandals ever. They come in several different models and they align my feet perfectly. I love them. I have been recommending them to friends and family. Several pairs have been bought and several people are now Orthaheel converts too.

Being most of you reading this are women I will point you to the womens section for the site. My friend just ordered the Solana mode in green. They look pretty nice. She loves them and was wearing them the other day when she came over to watch our kids.

Give these shoes a try, I’m sure you’ll love them too!   These are my pair pictured below:

Lush Cosmetics

Lush Cosmetics

Yeah I know this is a food site!

But..I have always thought it would be great to find hair and body care products that were made with real food ingredients. Even thought of formulating some personally. I figured herbs like rosemary and lavender and other ingredients like avocados, walnut husks, goat’s milk etc. could be combined into healthy products without harsh chemicals.

There is a child-proof lock on my bathroom cabinet for a reason, the personal care products we use are toxic and dangerous, yet we put them in and on our bodies. I recenly came acrose a company called Lush Cosmetics. They make incredible, natural cosmetics that are indeed GREAT STUFF. I recently starting using these items so I could tell you all about them here.

The Harvest Eating family is over 20,000 strong and about 90% female (I love my flock of chicks) so this post is a perfect fit for this audience. Lush cosmetics are very ingeniously designed and the creativity shown in this line is awesome. These are some talented folks.

Lush products contain all types of food and herbal ingredients that simply work well. Of course I have tried many natural personal care products, either they do not work or they do not last.  I can’t tell you how many $10 bars of goats milk soap I have used only to get 4-5 showers of use before they are toally gone.

Because I travel often to promote Harvest Eating and my cookbooks, I have become very interested in one bag travel, (more about the bags I use in a future post) essentially packing everything in one bag to avoiding the checked baggage fees. I need to take lightweight gear that helps lighten the load and also pack using packing cubes and pouches to stay well organized and well equipped while on the road. Lush makes some really neat solid shampoos that come in a water tight tin that are amazing. They do not need to be shown to TSA as they are not liquid.  One tin is much lighter then a bottle of standard shampoo. This way I am not subject to cheap and harsh shampoo in my hotel room.

These shampoo bars make an amazing amount of lather, smell good and clean my hair perfectly. They last a long time too. When you see all the natural ingredients contained in Lush, you can really feel good about using them.

The shaving creams are also incredible. I get a very smooth shave and my skin smells like oranges and cream instead of heavy, toxic “guido” cologne like my regular shave gel does. Read the labels on shampoo and deodorant…you’ll be running to visit the lush website.

Above is a slide show showing some of the products. I plan on reviewing them in more detail in the near future so check back often. Be sure to subscribe to your newsletter or RSS feed so you can read the reviews.

Best,

Keith
