When you travel it does not mean you have to give up Harvest Eating. With a little planning, and assuming you’re traveling by car, you can bring stuff with you to help make cooking while away possible. It’s also relatively easy to find farm markets and tail gate markets in most vacation destinations.
When we travel we bring some basic culinary tools, then visit local markets to buy fresh produces, dairy and sometimes even seafood and meat. Then we can fashion meals at the rental house that mimic home cooked “real” meals instead of going out overnight or eating frozen and junk food.
My New Troy Built Horse
I hope to chat more about this in the future, but for now just a short mention; I recently purchased a 1981 Troy built Horse tiller from a dude off Craig’s list. I only paid $250 for it and it’s running good and very operational. I have wanted one like this for a long time. I was first introduced to these American Made tillers by my old neighbor Jack. He has an appreciation for well-made American equipment as is an avid collector and restorer of John Deere and other iconic machines.
Jack has a nice collection of tools and equipment and the all are in great condition and very well maintained. His Troy Built horse is a vintage mid 1970’s and in great condition.
The one I just bought needs some TLC, but runs great and has the best motor they offered; a Briggs and Stratton i/c 8 HP engine. It fires right up and sounds great and all functions are operational. I am going to change some fluids; gear oil and engine oil, then lubricate any fittings or place that need it. I will use it for some tasks this summer and then tear it down in the fall/winter to restore it to it’s former glory. More photos and videos to come…
